Birds can make great pets if you have the time to care for them. They are relatively easy to take care of. There are many different types of pet birds some popular ones are, parakeets, finches, and cockatiels.
Birds need a safe cage. By being safe, the cage should be on a sturdy base. The cage should be long enough that the bird can fully extended its wings. Some bird love to climb so make sure there is room for them to have fun. The bars should be no larger then ½ inches apart from each other (depending on the type of bird). With having large space in-between the bars can result in your bird getting injured or escaping. The bottom of the cage should have wood chips, gravel, or gravel paper to catch the droppings.
The cage should be placed where there is not a lot of traffic. The cage should be kept away from drafts (by A/C, window, door etc.) and direct sunlight (in the window). Make sure the cage is out of harms way, so that a baby can’t nock the cage over or any other animals.
The bird needs to be occupied. It is very important to have toys in the cage for the bird to play with. Bird love mirrors to see their own reflection, so they don’t feel alone. Birds need exercise, keep them entertained by having more than one perch and have playtime. If you do take your bird out of its cage to play with, it’s a good idea to have the wings clipped. Birds are attracted to shinny things such as mirrors & glass.
Birds should be feed a high quality diet that is made especially for that type of bird. The water and food should be changed daily. The water should be clean. Many birds will decide to take a bath in their water or soil in it, if they do not have a bird bath in the cage.
Birds are relatively clean creatures. The cage should be completely clean weekly, to keep yourself healthy and bird.
Keep the cage busy with toys so the bird doesn’t feel alone. Birds love to bond with their owners. It is great to have playtime, let them out of their cage to play daily. Be cautious of what the surroundings are before you let your bird out of its cage. Keep an eye on your bird’s health. They may require some visits to the vet once in awhile.
